NATIONAL CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME ADDRESS
Welcome to the official website of The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). Here you will find information about our mission, vision, our objectives and our activities nationwide. You will also find information on our Chapters. Our students and young engineers have a platform where we interact and mentor them. The NIMechE – NSF is also very active. There are many ways to gain from the membership of the Institution. Take time to see what we have. And if you have any question, feel free to email us at [email protected]. Should you however need to contact any of our chapters, kindly click on “CONTACT US” above and call the chapter directly.
We have had Eleven (11) Former National Chairmen from all works of life and they are still supportive of the Institution. Currently, we have 19 Chapters cutting across Nigeria and over 15 students affiliate chapters in different institutions across the country.
Our Membership Category are as Follows ( for those with Over 10 years experience and postgraduate qualification(s)); Members ( for those with minimum of four years postgraduate experience and has satisfied COREN requirements as professional Engineers); Associates ( For those with third class in engineering course, HND, and those with non engineering course but working in engineering capacity) ; Graduates (for those who have graduated from engineering school but have not attained the conditions for Professional accreditation or stipulated experiences); Students ( For those undergoing degree leading to qualification as Engineer in accredited tertiary institution). We also have Corporate Membership for Engineering Firms. Interested Engineering firms can contact us at [email protected] for more information.
The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers recognizes the need to stand up for our members within the limit of our resources, power and capacity to assist them. We will do everything within our ability to support and encourage all our members wherever they are to develop and position them for market competitiveness. We must realize that technology is advancing at a speed “greater than Mach one” and only through being up to date with current information and skill upgrade can we truly be competitive. NIMechE will continue to act in a bid to respond to the challenges facing our members and equip them with skills and resources needed to contribute to national development as well as achieving personal satisfaction and fulfillment while practicing their profession.
We are introducing the specialized groups from this year to be coordinated by seasoned Mechanical Engineers. These groups are:
(i) Design and Manufacturing group
(ii) Energy/Oil and Gas group
(iii) Production Planning, Maintenance and Management group
(iv) Building Services group and
(v) Mechanical Engineering Entrepreneurship group.
This is because Mechanical Engineers will find their skills in demand in a variety of fields and industries including medical, scientific research, construction, aerospace, acoustics, combustion, automotive engineering, etc. If a device requires movement or manufacturing, design, testing, or packaging, a mechanical engineer will most likely be involved. Please join a group of your specialty.
I am interested in getting your views on what you want us to do as an Institution. Kindly send in your ideas and suggestions to the institution or directly to me with the email below. We also have two social media platforms for NIMechE and both are operational; Facebook (www.facebook.com/nimeche ) and Twitter and Twitter . Should you have news or publication for us kindly send email to [email protected] Join in the discussions and let your voices be heard. This is your institution, have a say in how it is run. Better still, get involved and together we will achieve more. Contribute to the upliftment of our Institution.
I am looking forward to a great tenure and hope to see many of you at our functions. May everyday be as joyous as your happiest day of the year.
